Acknowledgements

We would like to acknowledge the following individuals, teams, and departments who have contributed to the Online Kansas Reading Academy.

Without the financial support of the Kansas State Department of Education, this project would not have been possible. The Online Kansas Reading Academy was fully funded by KSDE. We would like to specifically thank the following individuals: Dr. Bill Hagerman, Director, State and Federal Programs, and Norma Cregan, State and Federal Programs, Reading First Grant.

Kansas Reading First is a collaborative effort between the Institute of Educational Research and Public Service at the University of Kansas and the Jones Institute for Educational Excellence at Emporia State University. The teams at both universities provided valuable creative ideas, feedback, and resources. This project would not have been possible without the support of: Dr. Jerry Bailey, Dr. Larry Clark, Dr. Diane Nielsen, Dr. Gerry Coffman, Laurie Winter, Carl Multon, Melissa Reed, Miki Herman, and Clarissa Jackson.

A very creative and talented team from Kansas University Continuing Education provided the framework, art, and all necessary technology work. This team included: Mark Crabtree, John White, Lynne Lipsey, and Luke Anderson. They were able to take our vision and make it a reality.

The fabulous content of the Kansas Reading Academy deserves its own acknowledgement. The content writers have devoted thousands of hours selecting appropriate research-based reading information, reading professional books and journals, writing sections, developing handouts and appropriate activities, and creating PowerPoint presentations. Over the past three years, this team has included: Dr. Gerry Coffman, Dr. Diane Nielsen, and Laurie Winter, and Karen Davies.

Karen Goodel served as our technical editor. She patiently went through each and every item to  make sure that all our i’s were dotted and our t’s crossed. We admire her attention to detail.

We are so privileged to work with outstanding facilitators for the Kansas Reading Academy. They go above and beyond to provide the best professional development for participants. Their content knowledge combined with their understanding of professional development and adult learners contribute to the overall success of the Academy. The following facilitators were video taped for the Online Kansas Reading Academy: Becky Cox, Melody Gatti, Miki Herman, and Deanne Letourneau.
